Some lucky Mega Millions ticket holder still has a chance to take home the top prize this year.
The jackpot for this Friday's final Mega Millions drawing in 2022 has grown to $640 million after Tuesday's $565 million award went unclaimed, according to the lottery website.
The gold Mega Ball was 11, while the six winning numbers from Tuesday's drawing were 9, 13, 36, 59, and 61.
The jackpot, which may provide someone a very joyful New Year's celebration, will be the highest Mega Millions prize ever presented in the last week of any year, according to Mega Millions.
Only five times in the more than 20-year history of Mega Millions has the prize exceeded $600 million.
The previous time it occurred was on July 29, when a ticket bought in Illinois resulted in a prize of $1.3 billion (or $780 million in cash), the second-largest Mega Millions jackpot ever.
The largest was $1.5 billion, won on October 23, 2018, by a South Carolina ticket holder.
Jackpot winners have two options for receiving their money: a lump sum payment in cash or a first payment followed by 29 annual instalments.
