The city of Louisville, Kentucky, is credited with being the birthplace of the traditional drink known as the old-fashioned. It may be prepared using either bourbon or rye whiskey, or even a mixed whiskey. There is also the option of using one sugar cube in place of the simple syrup.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of pure cane sugar syrup
- 1 teaspoon water
- 2 dashes bitters
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1 jigger (or 1.5 ounces by volume) of bourbon whiskey
- 1 segment of orange
- 1 maraschino cherry
Directions
After adding water, simple syrup, and bitters to a whiskey glass, give the mixture a good swirl to incorporate the ingredients. After adding ice cubes, pour the bourbon into the glass. Orange slices and maraschino cherry should be used as garnishes.
